• Good Morning Sanity and Chaos readers! Just a bit of housekeeping news to let you know about. In an effort to keep myself sane and work smarter, not harder, I am merging Sanity and Chaos and White Butterfly Furniture Websites. You will find the same content (I’m not changing that up) as well as White Butterfly Furniture for sale. I will continue to include DIY posts, explanations and tutorials on furniture refinishing and painting and home fix-up, mom ramblings and all our funny family tales. I’m hoping to bring the Facebook page readers over to read the blog as well […]

  • Last year I made a few wreaths for our house and some to sell. I took felt and made little flowers and glued them to some grapevine. They turned out great, and I still get people pinning the tutorial once in awhile. So, when my new friend Maria at Eco Chic Boutique asked if I had any crafty projects for the holidays that they could use to decorate and sell at the Holiday Home Tour, I immediately thought of these. Here’s that post, if you are interested in a step by step on how to make the felt flowers. I […]

  • We’ve wanted to document the home building progress, so what better place to do it and share pictures, then here! Tom took these pictures on October 11. Nothing fancy this week, just some dirt and a big ol’ hole in the ground… But, they’ve also got the footings in too! Then, on October 27th, our builder rep sent us these pictures: Hello! It’s almost entirely framed up! He said that by the end of this week (that’s today!) it should be entirely framed up and closed in! (This is the entry.) It is so fun to see how quickly things […]

  • First of all, Thank you for your kind comments and words the past few days! We are enjoying having Lincoln home with us and the boys are loving him! This 4th child of ours is 9 days old. 9 days….already. It’s killing me how the days just keep ticking by. If time could stand still and I could bottle up newborn smell and the softness of newborn skin, I would be in heaven. If birth stories and pain make you queasy, then skip the words and look at the pictures. There’s no pain or talk of pain or blood or […]

  • Welcome to the world Lincoln Martin Thor! He arrived the day before his due date, came into the world quickly and we are blessed. 10.23.2012 4:34 pm 5 lbs 15 oz 19 inches long. Last week we had a small mishap with a glass of milk and my computer…it’s currently at the computer guy trying to be revived….or waiting to be thrown into the dumpster…so as soon as I get it back (or I get a new one) I will tell you all about birthin’ this babe and how it is going with 4 children. Who loves babies?!?!?! Me!

  • Last year I made a slip cover for an oversized chair I picked up at Goodwill. It was a fair attempt at my first major slipcover, but I had always had the intention of having it professionally reupholstered. You can read about my attempt here. I absolutely love this chair. It is so comfortable, and putting a slip cover on it was a great fix. I may still use the slip cover once in awhile, but I got a great deal on some fabric and found a great upholster here in Fargo, and decided to get it done while we’re […]

  • When we lived in O-town, people would drop things off in front of our garage that they found on the side of the road or that they were going to throw out. I also got lots of text messages with things like, “chair, Lisbon and Oakwood”. Or messages about good garage sales. I absolutely loved that I had some “pickers” out there and knew what I would be interested in! Since we’ve been here, I haven’t had a lot of success with finding items, so when someone here lets me know of something available, I get a little giddy! Someone […]

  • When we picked up the fireplace mantel we also picked up two little dressers that I thought would be perfect as nightstands in our bedroom. They are a great size, have a nice surface for lights and books and monitors and then three drawers for storage. I love the style and I knew they would be perfect next to our barn wood headboard. I love mixing different styles. I love the look of items collected over time instead of purchased all at one time at one big furniture store. Plus, these have a great story! I worked out a deal […]

  • We picked a mantel for the fireplace. Seriously, I am so excited about it! We brought it home (to my Dad’s) with a couple of small dressers that I think we will use as nightstands. I’ve almost got them finished, so I’ll show you those soon! I got all the protruding nails out and then I scraped it and sanded it to get all the flaky paint chips off of it, then I painted it in Annie Sloan Paris Gray Chalk Paint. There was no rhyme or reason to the painting, I just kind of slopped it on really thick, […]
