• I think I showed you these…I was going to buy those other stools for a crapload of money and then saw these two minutes after hitting buy and so then I retracted my purchase….(which by the way was a huge 5 day ordeal of the bank basically making our money unaccessible for that time. Which is ridiculous because I had only bought them two hours before saying never mind. But that’s another rant for another day!) These stools were a steal at $20 for the set. I bought a piece of rough cut scrap contractor grade 2×12 for $7 and […]

  • I found this little dresser thing at a garage sale and knew I could do something with it. It was in pretty bad shape. There was supposed to be two more drawers in it, but they weren’t there. So I took the back off and then used the sawsall to cut off those triangle pieces and that piece of wood that was a guide for the drawers. I thought about putting a shelf in there, but I wanted to make it a little more versatile. So, I left it off. It wouldn’t be hard at all to put a shelf […]

  • After ripping all the carpet off the stairs and staining and painting them, I wondered what else was under the carpet and linoleum…. You can read about the stair story here, here, and here, and here too, oh and maybe here. It was a long project. I don’t even know if all those links go to the foyer stairs or the basement stairs….good luck. I painted the basement stairs, just basic pine steps. And stained and painted the foyer stairs, pine steps, had to figure out the landing and replace one step…no big deal really. And they still look awesome […]

  • We have three closets in our kitchen. It’s a little strange. I think one was supposed to be a storage closet for the vacuum and such, but we changed that one to a craft closet. And some toys…poor Woody. Here are the other two closets. Big and deep. And virtually impossible to really use well. Difficult to reach all the way in the back and the kids couldn’t get to much. These shelves and the crappy picture just don’t work. So, I took these shelves out. And moved all this stuff either to Goodwill, the basement or the other side, […]

  • I picked up this dresser/canning storage thing at the “granny estate” last weekend. I don’t know why. I just did. It was five dollars for crying out loud! How could I not?! I wanted to keep it intact. I really, really did. The patina on the front is so gorgeous. It just wasn’t salvageable. Boo. The frame was rotting and I could have built a new one, I suppose, but then it wouldn’t be as cool. So, I scratched that and decided on drawer shelves instead. These were so easy to do. Easy. I took the drawers out and vacuumed […]

  • Is that a word? Signage? It is, right? I have been wanting to make a pallet something or other for quite some time. There are so many great pallet projects out there, I wanted to try my hand at it too, and see how easy it was. But guess what?! People around here charge for pallets! That’s right, even HD wanted me to buy them from them for $2 a piece. I mean, 2 bucks, no big deal. But people get them for free! So, I didn’t really want to pay for one. But then I started cleaning our wood […]

  • Remember the cabinet that I was working on yesterday? Well, I was. And I finished it. Sort of. I have to preface this with something. I have no idea what I’m doing. Honestly. No idea. I mean I have a basic knowledge of some stuff. I know how to use a few tools, Tom and I have worked on building things together, but I generally don’t finish projects by myself. Even with the headboard I had him attach it to the bed frame and he helped measure the cross beam in the back…see, I had help! But, here’s what I […]

  • Happy Wednesday. Today I find out if I have to have back surgery…ewww…. But, let’s talk about the headboard instead! Here’s the deets. I cut some boards at 81 inches. We had six boards at 162 inches each so when I cut one it was perfectly 81 inches, so I only had to use two boards. (That leaves 4 more boards for two tables!) Then I took some spare 2×4′s and laid them across the boards…just to get an idea…. Then I cleaned them off, let them dry and lightly sanded them. I also then took a little paint and […]

  • Good Morning! A couple people wanted to know if the jar lamps get hot….so far the jar has not been hot to the touch. Go for it! Today we are talking about barn wood. I have a thing with barns. And barnwood. And barn beams. And farms, and pigs and chickens and cows. But that’s another post for another day. Last year we used some barn wood to make our dining room table… You can read all about that process here. It was so fun, and I really just wanted to curl up and sleep on it every night. But, […]

  • Last year around Memorial Day I turned some mason jars into a light over the kitchen sink. You can see that tutorial here. I still love them! So when I saw these lamps on Pinterest, I knew I had all the tools and necessary pieces to try it. You can find these here if you’d prefer to buy them! Which is always a perfectly acceptable option! I have some Ikea lamps in our master bedroom, so I grabbed those and a couple mason jars with lids that we had lying around. Things you always need in your house: lightbulbs, mason […]
