Thank you all so much for the well wishes! We are very excited about all of the things happening right now! Fun times ahead for sure! A few weeks ago we made a dining table for our patio. I really, really wanted a square table, but our patio just wasn’t set up for it. No big deal. I decided awhile ago that I was going to use barn wood and black metal pipes. Figuring out what size and length of the pipes was a pain in the butt, we had to go back to Home Depot twice for different sizes, […]
The final installment is brought to you by Aleve and DeWalt. (Just kidding, of course.) This is a long, photo loaded post. Don’t worry. It ends well! This day brought a lot of standing around wondering how this was going to work… When everyone got situated and they all decided what the best method was to do this, we got started. It wasn’t THAT heavy. From left tush to right tush…neighbor/friend Josh, neighbor/friend Denny, hubby Tom, friend Scott…awesome. 3 of 4 in flip flops. Totally not OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) approved. (Tom is sitting next to me editing […]
The next installment of the barn beam pergola saga is brought to you by Aleve and Bengay. You can see installment one here and two here and three here. We stood one up to see how tall we wanted it to be. Then marked them and cut them with a chainsaw. They weren’t exactly straight, but that’s okay, we knew we were going to have to use some shims to make them level. This is the “column”. Tom had to notch out some spaces for the cross beams to rest in, so we laid it out on the ground and […]
Last time I talked about this pergola, about a month ago, we had just had the new patio poured. After the patio was dry, we brought out all our barn wood so we could clean it and weather proof it. I cleaned it with my new powerwasher and then it sat there for what seamed like eternity. We had to clean it twice, because things kept growing on it before it could dry out and I could weather proof it. Ugh. We finally were able to get it stained! I even enlisted some help from the neighborhood. After the beams […]
We’ve been working on a few things. These photos speak thousands of words. These hardworking fellas finished up our patio in no time. Big Thank You to them for their hard work! Then I got to work on these: I bought myself one of the most amazing machines! It’s the original Powerwasher. It works miracles. Check it. The two on the right have been sprayed. The one on the left, unsprayed. Seriously. Can you hardly believe it? They are currently drying out and they have been sanded, I’ll show you that progress later. It’s like the “Stairs Story of ’10.” […]
I’m a teensy bit whiney today, just a little. Just prepare yourself. And the title has nothing to do with most of this post, except for paragraph four. Deal. I used to want to write so eloquently and beautifully that you would have to read it three times to even understand what it says….ummm…I’ve decided I’m not Shakespeare. And I don’t want to be. There are some beautifully worded blogs out there, and they do a great job writing. I can’t do that. I need cold hard facts and straightforward words, I just don’t have the time to pay read […]
