• Tom had a big birthday on Monday. He turned 4-0. It was a great day. We started the morning showing him a video that I made with some help with video messages from friends and family. He LOVED it. Which makes me so very happy. It was fun to put together and I know that it meant a lot to him. I had initially refinished this drafting table/desk for him, but we decided that he needed something a little more functional, maybe with some drawers and stuff. So, this will be used in the office as an extra workspace for […]

  • Okay, I really finished this a few days ago, but you know….I had other posts planned. So, here we go. A couple photos to remind you of the inspiration piece and what this one looked like before i got my grubby hands on it. RH Drafting Table Here’s my piece: I sanded the top piece and then decided to try out gel stain on the base. It worked great! I am in love with it. I am not in love with what it did to my hands, but spray on goo-gone took the stain right off. I left most of […]

  • Tom went to school for construction management and currently sits behind a very large computer screen working on schedules for projects his company builds. He’s fancy. He loves everything construction related and in fact loves the furniture that comes along with it…desks, clamp lamps, big huge rulers…you get the idea. I of course love everything about Restoration Hardware. Ummm…except the price. We’ve often thought it would be neat to have a drafting table as a work desk. But, as DIYers we are not willing to spend RH prices. So here’s my inspiration photo for a drafting table in our soon […]

  • 1. It was our anniversary on the 11th. We’ve been married for 10 years! It’s hard to believe. It’s been a great 10 years and is only getting better. I love you babe. 2. We got an anniversary/mother’s day/father’s day present! I love it! 3. We decided to take a little vacay this past weekend in honor of our anniversary. No scratch that. We went to Minneapolis and drove around until our rear ends were numb. Our mission was to find a neighborhood/city that feels just like the one we’re currently in. We drove for 3 days checking out tons […]

  • I bought this recliner at a garage sale for my husband on the day that we moved in to our very first house. Sidenote: the house was in a sketchy area but the neighborhood was one that was turning….uhh….never did turn. We got out just in time. But, this very ugly plether recliner has survived through 2 dogs, 3 houses and 3 children. But, it was time to say good bye. It had to go. For the love of all that is holy, this chair needed to leave my house. Pronto. I prepared him. Me: Honey, maybe we should think […]

  • Today this hottie turned….well, a year older than last year. In honor of his birthday the boys wanted to make him a pie. Pumkin pie. So we did. He wanted mexican food for supper, so I made my famous enchiladas. His supper consisted of enchiladas and pumpkin pie. Interesting combo for sure! To sum this man up in one word is easy. Hot. Frustrating. AMAZING. Okay. That’s it, he’s amazing.  He is the man that I had dreamed of since the age of 6. Is that when you start pretending to get married? His head isn’t currently shaved. Although, it […]

  • So, it’s no secret around these parts that I don’t really ENJOY birds. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that, well, I watch Alfred Hitchcock when I was in junior high…and ever since….they kinda freak me out. And, you know, bird flu, they eat my grass seed and my flower seed….oh and nevermind the fact that I’ve been pooped on by a bird. Twice. Not the same bird. Once while rollerblading in high school. AND once while walking to class….in college….the first week…grody. One of the things that T and I differ on is the love of […]

  • Hubs hates to paint. So, do you know what I asked him to do on Friday night? Duh. Well, actually, I didn’t ask him, I just started doing it, and he felt guilty enough to help. It’s really his own fault. This was not fun. I’ve noticed that when I start a project and he doesn’t want to do it, we barely talk through the entire thing. So, for two hours we were painting in silence. Seriously. Sometimes when we do projects that need to get done but nobody really wants to do them, one of is on the receiving […]

  • Today is our EIGHTH Anniversary. EIGHT crazy years. We skipped the seven year itch. I tried to be very creative here and come up with a countdown….here’s what I have so far…. 8 years.7 moves.6 cities.5 members of our family.4 cars.3 kids.2 dogs.1 happy life together. (So cheesy). Love you baby. Thanks for taking the plunge and marrying a mid-west girl that you could curl up with on cold nights in GF. Sometime I’ll write the story of how we met. And how I told him I wasn’t home….
