I spent all day Friday at garage sales. It was exhausting. And guess what?! I came home with only 3 pieces of furniture. It was kind of a bust. But, some days are like that.

We also spent Sunday at the Elkhorn Flea Market. I do love that Flea Market, but it was hot, and by 10:00 a great deal of stuff had been marked SOLD. So that was a bust as well. However, it is so fun to wander around there and see what people are selling and what people are buying! Last year I was looking for anything wire and couldn’t find a thing. This year, all I saw was wire baskets!

I grabbed this at a church sale for five bucks. How could I not!

It’s a blanket chest and used to have a mirror with it, but not any more, huh. So, I figure it can be used for a tv stand, an end table, end of the bed storage chest….anything really!

So, sometimes I come up with these color ideas and get started. And then I start painting and I start second guessing myself, and I want to cry because it is so ugly.  But by then it’s too late to turn back and I might as well just keep going. So I did. And I tell you what, I am usually so glad that I keep going. This time wasn’t any different. I am just loving these two colors together.

Annie Sloan’s Antibes and Provence. When you put the Antibes on, initially it is a shock and you want to cry because it is so bright. But then, after it is distressed and you do a wipe on of some stain, it looks exactly like you envisioned it. At least that’s what happens to me. Anyone else?

I decided that just for fun I’d throw this in our living room and see what it looked like in there. And…ehem….I love it…LOVE.

So here’s what I did. I sanded it a little in the beginning, just to get the gunk off. Then I rolled on,  two coats of antibes on the base and two coats of provence on the drawer fronts. After that dried, I sanded it all down with the rotary sander and some 220 grit sandpaper. Then I grabbed some dark walnut mixed with ebony stain and rubbed it on, let it sit for 2.2 seconds and wiped it off. I’ve still got to apply some wax, and I’m still deciding if I want to throw on some new pulls, but HELLO! I am loving it.

I’m not sure if I’ll keep it, but I do love it! Someone painted the inside of the drawers pink. And, oddly I didn’t paint the insides. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded of where it started….

I love your little blanket chest. I have it’s sister in my closet as lingerie storage. I love little pieces like this that are so versatile. Ours has lived at the end of our bed, as a nightstand, a television stand, etc. LOVE your paint job.
